The seminar will first provide an overview of a broad range of European periodicals of the 20 th century.
Aim of this is not to reconstruct the theoretical statements, the architectural contents and the topics of criticism, that those journals have conveyed. Instead, it will raise the question of the identity and specificity of architectural magazines among architectural publication. Can we establish typologies of magazines?
What kind of history do we write, when we rely on criticism and its texts and, more specifically, when we rely on periodicals to write history? How might this source be used for history of the present time? Is architectural publication only a source for historians, or, moreover, is it itself an object of study?
