Leading Indicator (IL)

The Center for Finantial Research (CIF) at Torcuato Di Tella University elaborates the Leading Indicator (ILCIF), an indicator that anticipates the turning points in the business cycle. The index is composed economic series chosen on their conformity, temporal consistency, economic rationality, representation and availability.

Economic activity is subject to frequent swings, smooth or sharp, of changing periodicity, magnitude and frequency: these are the business cycles. These changes, with its phases of prosperity and recession , affect the decisions of economic agents and determine the probability of success or failure of their projects. The IL ability to predict these changes provides agents with information about the future economic conditions and, therefore, allows them to make better decisions.

Along with the Leading Indicator, the CIF publishes the Diffusion Index, a complementary indicator which determines how generalized is a trend change among the different sectors and economic aggregates.
