Abstract
In the theory of normed spaces, it is well known that every finite-dimensional subspace is complemented in any superspace containing it. Building on this, a natural question arises: how can the norm of a projection onto a given subspace be quantified? A key concept to address this problem is the so-called projection constant of the space X, defined as the smallest constant c > 0 such that, for any superspace Y containing X, there exists a projection from Y onto X with norm not exceeding c.
Abstract

In this talk, we provide explicit formulas for the projection constants of several important function spaces and discuss methods for computing them or estimating their asymptotic growth as the dimension of the ambient space tends to infinity.
This is based on work done in collaboration with Defant (Oldenburg), Mansilla (Buenos Aires), Mastyło (Poznań), and Muro (Rosario).
Daniel Galicer. Doctor en Matemática de la UBA (2012). Es investigador independiente del CONICET, secretario de la Unión Matemática Argentina y profesor invitado en UTDT. Su área de investigación es el Análisis Funcional, con especial interés en el Análisis Infinito Dimensional y el Análisis Geométrico Asintótico. Recibió el Premio Enrique Gaviola en Matemática de la Academia Nacional de Ciencias (2022) y el Premio Estímulo en Matemática de la Academia Nacional de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales (2021). Es miembro de la Academia Joven Argentina. Dirigió tres tesis doctorales y publicó numerosos artículos en revistas internacionales de gran prestigio, incluyendo Int. Math. Res. Not., Trans. Am. Math. Soc., J. Reine Angew. Math. (Crelle), Adv. Math., Math. Ann., J. Funct. Anal., Anal. PDE y Phys. Rev. A. Su trabajo cuenta con una amplia red de colaboradores de distintos países. Participó como conferencista en varios congresos internacionales y organizó conferencias y sesiones especializadas en su área. También tuvo un rol de gestión académica como director adjunto del Departamento de Matemática de la Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales de la UBA (2022-2024).
