Seminario cerrado: Measuring Teaching Quality. The Promises and Challenges of Value-Added Metrics (2015)
How can we
measure and improve the quality of teaching? One approach that has
received considerable attention by education researchers and policymakers is
the use of “value-added” (VA) measures, which rate teachers based on their
students’ test score gains. We focus the controversial policy debate
about VA metrics to a set of questions that can be answered empirically, and
present evidence on each of these questions. We contend that there is
greater consensus in academic literature than suggested by political debate,
but some important issues in determining whether and how to use VA metrics
remain unresolved.

Jonah E. Rockoff tiene un Ph.D. en Economía (Harvard University) y un B.A. en Economía (Amherst College). Es Profesor Asociado en Columbia Graduate School of Business e Investigador Asociado en el National Bureau of Economic Research. Sus trabajos se centran en la gestión y las finanzas de las escuelas públicas, los sistemas de contratación de docentes, los efectos de la política No Child Left Behind en estudiantes y escuelas, el impacto de los maestros de escuelas primarias en los primeros años de vida adulta de sus alumnos, entre otros.
